Why a source failed
When a source can't be read, it shows Failed on the Knowledge page with the reason underneath.
What you're seeing
- A file or page with a red Failed status.
- A message under its name, like "No readable text found in this document."
Check these in order
"We couldn't index this yet"
Something went wrong on our side while building the search index. We've been notified. Choose Retry processing on its row after a few minutes. If that fixed it, you're done.
"No readable text found in this document"
The file is empty, or it's a scan whose text couldn't be read. Export a PDF with a text layer (most tools have "Save as PDF" or "Export as PDF"), upload that and delete the old one. If that fixed it, you're done.
"This file is password protected"
Remove the password, save a copy and upload it. If that fixed it, you're done.
"This file is too large to index"
Split the file into smaller parts, for example by chapter, and upload those. If that fixed it, you're done.
"This file type is not supported"
Convert it to PDF, Word, Markdown or text and upload it again. If that fixed it, you're done.
