Add custom instructions

Custom instructions are a short style guide for your assistant: the names you use, the promises it must never make, the way you talk about plans.

Three steps

  1. Open Custom instructions

    Choose Assistant in the sidebar. Custom instructions is under Voice.

  2. Write a few clear rules

    One rule per line works best. For example:

    Call workspaces "teams".
Never promise refunds; link to the billing policy instead.
Refer to the paid plans as Pro and Business.

  3. Save and test

    Choose Save changes and try a question in the Playground that the rules should affect.

You're done when

Answers use your terms and follow your rules.

If something's not right

I asked it to answer something that isn't in the docs, and it won't

That's by design. Custom instructions can't override "answer only from the docs": PageTruth never answers from outside your sources. Add the information as an article instead.

My rules are being ignored

Keep each rule short and specific, and put the most important first. Long essays are harder to follow than five plain lines.
